Fighting the Good Fight in West Texas to Legalize a Plant that Can Save Our Lives!

ODESSA -- Currently, 23 states and the District of Columbia have implemented laws legalizing marijuana in some form. Texas native Lydia Decker, 47, has been fighting lawmakers to add the Lone Star State to the list since 2010.
“When you're ill and you know that these medicines don't work and they make you sick,” Decker said, “what choice do you have?”

In December of 2014, Decker began fighting her own life. She was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a type of lung disease that gradually worsens over time.  She has been using cannabis oil as a form of treatment, and she told KAMC News the results have been very positive.

“I don't want to be strapped to a hose. I don't want to have to carry a machine around with me to breath, and I don't want to take medicines that will make me feel sick,” Decker said. “I just really believe that in just a couple more months that this will completely be gone.”

“The science is still developing on medical marijuana,” said State Senator Charles Perry of Lubbock. “There are examples of success and examples of failures—it seems to depend on the individual in treatment.”

Decker said, in her case, because she has began using cannabis oil, she no longer has to rely on her oxygen tank 24 hours a day or rely on medications that make her feel sick.

Currently, cannabis oil, like other marijuana products, is illegal in Texas, but Decker hopes that her success will encourage lawmakers in Austin to consider legalization.
Senator Perry said he is doubtful that the debate will reach Austin anytime soon.

“The medical debate continues to be discussed but politically the time has not arrived,” Perry said. “I hope that any medical benefit can be scientifically perfected to remove all addictive elements and all the other undesirable problems associated with this issue for future debate to be had.”

After watching her family and friends lose their battle with various illnesses, Decker founded the website Genesis-129.org, to educate the community on why she believes marijuana should be legalized in Texas.

“Over the years we've had family members die of bone cancer and pancreatic cancer and all of these illnesses that could have been very well helped if it would have just been legal,” Decker said.

“When I was diagnosed I thought, 'You know, well now I'm not only fighting this and fighting for the legal use of it for everybody else that needs it,'” Decker said. “But I'm also fighting as a patient.”

Decker has lived in Texas her entire life. Recently, she moved to Odessa with her husband.

Twenty four states now are legal to use this as a medicine, and we don't feel that we should have to move from the state of Texas, that where we live and where we work, to be able to get medical help,” Decker said.

Genesis 1:29 Joins Forces with Stand For Freedom Permian Basin Group

We recently joined forces with Stand for Freedom Permian Basin last night at the Christmas Parade in Odessa, Texas
Showing Support to Protect Your Freedoms of Life, Liberty & Justice For All in a Peaceful Gathering is Not Unlawful. We joined together to bring awareness to the Community that Our Constitutional Rights are being suppressed and taken away from us. The Rights given to us by our forefathers outlined in the Bill Of Rights are one by one being changed, reworded and all together made now "illegal" for us. Our Country is quickly becoming a growing Police State, that is to say that the government is writing it's own rules now. Rules against Our Unalienable Rights (Definition: unalienable. What's unalienable cannot be taken away or denied. Its most famous use is in the Declaration of Independence, which says people have unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.)
The Right to Choose Freedom in our Health Care, Treating with a Natural Plant instead of being Forced to adhere to Big Pharma's Poisons that Kill people each and every day. These are All Freedoms that are being taken away from us so that our government has "All the Control over us". We are Not Afraid to Stand Up and Speak Out that this is Wrong and Can Not Be! If We Do Not Speak Out, Nothing will Change! We Stand for Change, We Stand for Freedom and keeping those Rights that were Given to us. No Where did it say "you have these rights until we decide to change our minds and change the rules".... What Will You Do to Save Your Rights? Won't you join us?

Grandma Agrees, Cannabis has worked Miracles for her!

Notice they said 17 Medications!!
Look at her Now, She's feeling Better than Ever.
Why would you choose to Keep this Illegal for her to use?

Sativa Vs Indica, Do You Know Which Strain is Best for You?

Choosing which variety of cannabis is best for a particular individual or condition can be more complicated than most imagine. Many patients have never tried or grown cannabis before discovering it as a medicine. Even for those who have, knowing what works for recreational and social purposes does not always translate into knowing the most suitable variety of cannabis for specific medical needs.
When choosing a medicinal cannabis strain, it is useful to have a basic understanding of the differences between Indica strains and Sativa strains in terms of their medical applications. All psychoactive cannabis contains the active compounds known as cannabinoids, but the proportions of the two main cannabinoids in the various strains create different effects when they are ingested.
Cannabinoids In terms of measurable effects on the body, and research into those effects, the two main cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and CBD (cannabidiol).
In most medicinal cannabis strains, THC makes up the majority of the active ingredients, while CBD represents a much smaller fraction. For instance, a potent strain may be measured at 15% or even 19% THC, but will typically contain less than 1% CBD. Nevertheless, this comparatively small proportion can have noticeable influence on the way the cannabis affects a patient. While CBD is not considered psychoactive in itself, it can impart many of the medicinal benefits of cannabis and can also moderate the effects of THC.
In this context, a CBD content of around 1% could be considered comparatively high, while a strain with low cannabidiol content would contain 0.6% CBD or less
Indica strains of cannabis generally have a medium to high THC content as well as a comparatively high CBD content. Sativa strains normally have medium to high THC and a relatively low CBD content.
Varieties of cannabis with very high levels of CBD are being developed and some, such as Ruderalis strains and Bediol® (>6% THC : 7.5% CBD) already exist. These strains allow patients to experience the benefits of medicinal cannabis without experiencing a strong psychoactive effect.
The relationship of the two main cannabinoids goes some way to explaining the different effects of the numerous strains, and also the exceptionally wide range of conditions which can be treated with medicinal marijuana.
Effects and Uses of Cannabis Indica Strains
Cannabis Indica strains generally create a sedative, ‘stoned’ feeling. This sensation tends to be centred in the body, which relaxes as muscle tension is reduced. Indicas are most effective in treating muscle spasms and tremors (for example caused by multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease), chronic pain, arthritic and rheumatic stiffness and swelling, insomnia, anxiety and related conditions.
Effects and Uses of Cannabis Sativa Strains
Cannabis Sativa strains provide a cerebral, energetic ‘high’ effect which is experienced in the mind as well as in the body. These strains are most effective for the treatment of nausea (for example caused by chemotherapy or HIV/AIDS medications), appetite stimulation, migraine headaches, depression, chronic pain and similar symptoms.

Effects and Uses of Indica/Sativa Hybrid Strains

Hybrids or cross-breeds of Indica and Sativa strains
exhibit characteristics from both types of cannabis. For some patients this offers an advantage, especially when medicating with cannabis to relieve chronic pain, something for which both Indica and Sativa strains are suitable. Combining Sativa genes with an Indica strain can aid mental clarity and decrease sedative effects, while adding Indica to Sativa strains can lower the tendency of pure Sativas to occasionally stimulate anxiety.
Choosing the Best Cannabis Strain
Many people choose to medicate with a combination of different strains. The ‘high’ effects of Sativa strains make them a better choice during the day, when being alert and awake is desirable, whereas the relaxing effects of Indica varieties often make them more suitable for evening and nighttime use. Hybrid strains can offer the best of both worlds to many patients but may be less suited to others.
The type of condition being treated is good guide to whether an Indica or a Sativa strain is more appropriate . Assessing the type of symptoms the patient seeks to relieve is generally the best starting point for selecting the most suitable type of medicinal cannabis for their individual condition.
It is also important to remember that just as every person’s physiological make-up is slightly different, the subjective experience of using cannabis medicinally is also different for everyone. The information offered here is intended as a basic guide and it is recommended that, if possible, anyone wishing to use cannabis as medicine should first consult a qualified physician.

Permian Basin Marijuana Law Reform Group

On what felt like the first real day of a Texas summer after experiencing a July of highs in the 80s, people from all around Midland and Ector counties gathered at Homemade Wines in Odessa for something that’s never been heard of before in the area, a meeting of people to begin forming a marijuana law reform advocacy group.
Organized by Lydia Decker, a resident of Odessa, the event drew nearly 40 people in what some consider to be a very conservative area.
It also attracted the attention of two local news outlets, including CBS 7 and NewsWest 9. The group was featured on the evening news.
The first speaker of the day was Midland County Libertarian Party Chairman Kenneth Holmes, who gave a full rundown on the drug war and its origins.
Texas Cannabis Report’s Editor-in-Chief Stephen Carter, was next and provided a presentation on the political climate in Texas including marijuana-related bills being considered and what a successful war on drugs would look like.
Ector County Libertarian Party Chairman Ben Farmer, spoke next talking about the need for local political activism. Decker talked throughout the meeting between speakers, laying the initial foundation for organizing street teams to begin getting the word out about the newly proposed non-profit Permian Basin Chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
Decker wants to have people out on the streets waving signs and handing out information about marijuana to people who live in west Texas. While she’s looking for full legalization, she also wants to talk about the medical benefits of cannabis as well.
She often quotes Genesis 1:29 and while there are many translations, the scripture largely reads, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”
“We basically use that as a platform, the scripture reveals that for us, God meant for it to be eaten, or ingested as in the edibles and Oils.’ Decker stated. “That the “healing” is from within. The smoke inhaled, also goes “within.” Man made Whiskey, God made pot, who do you trust?”
Decker wants to make clear that this organization is not just about people in Odessa or Midland, but the entire surrounding areas, and she wants to bring everyone together to reform marijuana laws for the better in Texas.
In order to get the newly proposed chapter up and running, the group needs five board members before filing with the State of Texas. Once that happens, the group can begin accepting members and donations, and begin fully organizing local events.
Those interested in finding out more about the organization can visit their website and Facebook page.
